Thanks to a volunteer connection, the Romanian Community of Cleveland donated nine Chromebooks to assist students with virtual learning this fall, which kicked off the opening of a Chromebook lab at The Hope Center. Additional Chromebooks were funded by BHITC’s Refugee Emergency Fund, and school-age students now receive help two days a week from staff and volunteers to assist with their virtual learning.
Beginning in June, BHITC’s Community Development team partnered with Bay Presbyterian Church (BPC) and New Life at Calvary (NLAC) to see a future church plant established at Family Ministry Center through the leadership of church planter and pastor, Keon Abner. BHITC’s equipping process for Pastor Keon and his core team is based on Christian Community Development philosophy and practice, Asset-Based Community Development and other urban ministry principles the organization has learned over its almost two decades of experience in city ministry.
“It’s been an intimate walk with Jesus each step as He keeps showing up and providing for every need,” says Mary McHugh, long-time supporter of BHITC and volunteer leading renovation efforts at The Hope Center. “He’s moving so fast, I can’t even pray for the next need before He sends it!”
Bridging the digital divide for families at The Hope Center is complete, which is needed more than ever due to the pandemic! The new computer lab, which officially opened in early November, is designed for adults in need of basic computer skills to help them take the next steps forward in life for themselves and their family members.
